Uncle Fred

Author:
Philip R. Fagan

Copyright Date:
2000

A collaborative effort with Chris Connolly, we called ourselves the Brogue Brothers. An Irish thing. There’s nothing like finishing your first feature film. We really went all out on the merchandise: T-shirts, CDs, posters, etc. But the highlight of this production for me was meeting my long-time idol Lou Reed, the King of New York himself, when we were shooting in Manhattan. Second would be FRED having to be relocated to the largest theater at Caravan of Dreams due to the turnout at the 2000 Ft.Worth Film Festival premiere. Next year, everyone in town was a filmmaker.

Synopsis:
Following the dissolution of his marriage and a series of personal and artistic failures in New York City, Fiko (Philip Fagan) returns to his Texas home after joining the military in an alcoholic haze. He is reunited with his gypsy grandmother (Barbara Seamster) and her mysterious and troubled son Fred (Velton Hayworth) recently released from prison. An evening of hard drinking, violent outbursts and startling revelation ensues, as Fiko is introduced to Fred’s new friend Lyle (David Spearance) and regretfully finds himself back in the company of Lonnie (LB Fagan), Fred’s unpredictable partner-in-crime. Throughout the course of a long and hellishly hilarious day, Fiko is given a rare glimpse into the secret soul of his intensely private and complex uncle. Also starring Clark Gray, Sherry D. and Dustin Chafin; with music by Anthropods, Dead Sexy, Jeremy Diaz, LB Fagan; Ghoultown, Mark Growden, the Kill-Creeps and Woodeye.
